The London Library

The London Library is a beautiful historic lending library in central London, a treasure trove of one million books on 17 miles of shelves.

Behind its elegant facade overlooking St. James's Square is a vast network of books and beautiful spaces, where since 1841 a great centre of learning and ideas has been created and a wide community of writers, thinkers and readers have found themselves at home.

Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, TS Eliot and Angela Carter are just some of the many literary luminaries who have been in membership and browsed the stacks, thumbed the books and written at our desks.

Today, our members have access to a vast collection of over one million books and periodicals, a superb online offering including thousands of eResources and eBooks and an unforgettable building in the heart of London.
